Bumblebee jasper is a soft, vibrantly colored stone that is a mixture of volcanic lava and sediment from Indonesia. It is mined from the side of Papandayan Volcano in the West Java Province and was first discovered in the 1990s. There are no other sources of this mineral yet and may not be.

Bumblebee jasper is actually a type of travertine stone with a calcite base. It is fibrously grown and contains little to no quartz, so it is not technically a jasper. The stone's vivid colors come from sulfur and arsenic compounds, including realgar, which contains a large amount of arsenic. The darker coloration is a stain caused by pyrite.

Bumblebee jasper is soft, with a Mohs hardness of 5 or below, and is easy to cut and polish. Most specimens are filled with Opticon.

Some say that bumblebee jasper is a stone of creativity, joy and new beginnings. It is also said to help manifest higher good and increase motivation.

Some say that bumblebee jasper is dangerous to handle because it does not cap over with quartz. Precautions such as washing hands and wearing gloves are recommended.
