Larimar is a rare, semi-precious blue gemstone that is only found in the Dominican Republic. It is a variety of the silicate mineral pectolite, and is also known as the "Atlantis Stone" or "Dolphin Stone". The name "Larimar" comes from the words "Lari" from Larissa and "mar" which means sea in Spanish.

Larimar is known for its striking blue color, which can range from light blue to greenish-blue with white to deep blue streaks. It can also come in other colors such as gray, turquoise blue, turquoise green, and turquoise blue-green. No two stones are alike, and some have likened the patterning found on Larimar stones to Rorschach tests.

Larimar is found in cavities of serpentinized ultramafic rocks, a special rock that does not fit into the three common categories of rock. It is mined in a remote mountain range in the province of Barahona, around the city of Barahona, in an area that is relatively inaccessible. The first mention of the stone is in a request to mine Larimar in 1916, however it wasn't until 1974 that the stone really made an appearance.

Larimar is often used in metaphysical practices, and is believed to promote calmness, healing, and communication. It's said to be connected to the throat chakra, which can help the wearer express emotions and speak their truth. Some recommend wearing larimar jewelry for people who are stressed.

Larimar is said to enlighten and heal in a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual way. It stimulates the heart, throat, third eye and crown chakras facilitating inner wisdom and outer manifestation. It represents peace and clarity, radiating healing and love energy.
